The roads get really busy. All kinds of things going to market. Makes for difficult and long travel times.
There’s a Chevy!! They are selling quite well here. However, there is a perspective of the Indian consumer that the parts/spares are quite expensive. I haven’t been to a Chevy store yet, but i will go in Mumbai. Although, the Audi’s sell for 3-4 times the MSRP, and there is a 6 month waiting list. Car biz here is exploding!!
They just start building houses. I don’t think they build any particular foundation, at least i didnt see any foundation. Everything is built with stone or just concrete. No wood framing or insulation.
Ahmedabad airport, there is a shop which sells M Gandhi goods. All kinds of things, from notebooks to belts and shirts. The proceeds go to a charity. They had this very nice wax model in the window.
Going to Jaipur for two reasons. 1.) I want to see it, per recommendations, 2.) My hotel in Ahmedabad (Fortune Group, Haveli) is just ok, its kinda like a cross between a Super 8 and a Holiday Inn (and right now i want a much better hotel).
So, off to Jaipur to go check out the Marriott!! Its funny, the Haveli manager goes, “so you are checking out 6 days before your reservation ends? Because you will not get a refund”. I go, “no, i am not checking out”. He was so confused. Finally, a lightbulb clicked and he understood that i was going to go to Jaipur whilst still keeping my room there.
Yes, the Marriott Jaipur.
New shopping and business district. It only had a few shops open so far, but it should become a very popular destination.
The gates to the “Pink City” within Jaipur. All the buildings are in this color. One of the Maharajas decreed that all the buildings be painted in this color to honor some British dignitary a couple of hundred years ago. The current State of Rajastan government still honors that old decree. It looks beautiful as you enter.
Shops at the bottom, residences at the top. The residences were originally awarded by previous maharajas (kings) to employees of the kings court and others who worked for him. They have been passed on from generation to generation. Nobody ever gives one up, its never happened (per my guide).
Beautiful doors everywhere. Just amazing craftsmanship.
Yes, there are monkeys who live here at the top of the residences. They are mostly at the fruit and vegetable market area of the pink city. The troop of monkeys is pretty smart. They have intricate plans in creating distractions with one group, while the other group steals the food. They do this everyday.
